Nameless Reality

"Nameless Reality" is a selection from the recent painting of Sebastijan Dračić: eleven oil canvases made between 2022 and 2025, from more intimate formats to monumental canvases of 150 × 200 cm. The title of the exhibition is taken from a description of his painting — Dračić's pictures, painted on the border between the real and the imaginary, draw the viewer into wondrous spaces of a nameless reality. The exhibition is run through by the diverse themes that mark his entire body of work: the mysterious depths of outer space ("Ispod zvijezda" / Beneath the Stars, "Twinkling stars"), prehistoric traces of humankind ("Neolitik" / Neolithic, "Tragovi" / Traces), abandoned and ruined architecture slowly reclaimed by nature ("Unité d'Habitation", "Putnik" / Traveller, "Toranj" / Tower), mystical landscapes and forests ("Sanctum", "Crveno" / Red), a procession of figures in golden light ("Golden hour") and the scorched earth of a post-apocalyptic future ("Cyberhead"). Their common denominator is the human figure — tiny, often barely visible — before the infinity of space and time: a body drifting along the Milky Way, a climber facing a blood-red sunrise, a passer-by in a derelict factory, or a lone man beneath a protective dome in the middle of a burnt forest. Through this iconography the artist expresses a deep concern for the future of humanity and the natural world, confronting questions of transience, survival and the role of the human being in today's world. Dračić's paintings offer no ready answers; instead they invite reflection and open a space for personal interpretation. They remain etched in the memory, like fragments of a dream, reminding us of the fragility and beauty of existence. With a unique authorial hand, grounded in figurative painting with complex, layered compositions, visual force, intellectual depth and exceptional technical precision, Dračić has confirmed his reputation as an indispensable name on the contemporary Croatian art scene. Every painting in this exhibition bears witness to his relentless search for new pictorial solutions, stylistic shifts and thematic depths, offering an insight into the breadth of his oeuvre and the power of his artistic expression.
